Indiana Jones Still Has What It Take To Have Fun!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Serena and I caught the midnight showing of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I really enjoyed this flick. Those who gave this movie average or poor reviews should go back and see the first three. This movie is has everything you’d expect from an Indiana Jones movie. It’s chock full of action, adventure, it’s a bit campy and witty, it has interesting locations, and even more interesting lore behind the story. And just like all the previous films the heart of this movie is that it is just plain FUN. For a man of 65, Harrison Ford still has what it takes to make a fun action flick for everyone to enjoy. For me, I couldn’t help feel a bit nostalgic as I watched this movie. It brings back memories of watching the first three movies as a kid. After watching I would always feel a sense of adventure and the need to get dirty playing outside.

There are a few flaws (to me), most of which could possibly be fixed for the DVD version. Though I like the idea of CGI, I felt it was a bit too noticeable. Sure, the Star Wars prequels are chock full of digital environments but they looked rather seamless and blended well with the live action shots. I was also unimpressed with the score (soundtrack). I was hoping for something more original to accompany the film rather than what sounded like a dull remix of the previous films orchestral soundtrack. It didn’t have a unique tone that can be easily related to the movie. Don’t get what I mean? Listen to Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. When you hear those scores long enough it leaves an impression of the movie in your memory. I would have like at least two minions to accompany Cate Blanchett’s character. I think it would’ve added a certain dynamic to her character’s role as the main villian.

Overall, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a chill flick to end the Summer Movie month of May. Expect nothing more after watching the first three films and you definitely have a movie to watch that done the only way Indiana Jones does it, full of fun. I definitely want to go see this movie again, more than I want to see IronMan a second time.
