Another movie we saw this past weekend was Wall-E. This is my new favorite Pixar movie. You would think that the bar for 3D animated storytelling couldn’t get any higher after Ratatouille, but Pixar manages to raise that bar even further.

From just watching the trailers one would think they know what to expect when they sit in that movie theater. I know I did. But another thing that Pixar does so well add that little twist that surprises you because you wouldn’t have expected it and it wasn’t even revealed in the trailers. The minute Wall-E leaves Earth for the first time, the story evolves beyond a robot in love, and it’s awesome!

The visuals in Wall-E are just stunning. The well-defined textures give this movie are more realistic feel. I had that feeling like the screen was a window and I could just reach in and touch the rusted walls of Wall-E home and feel that grittiness on my fingers. The particles and lighting effects just pushed the sense of realism even further. Even beyond Earth, space and the Axiom ship were well detailed and you could feel the expanse and openness of space and the size and magnitude of the Axiom space cruiser.

What I also liked about Wall-E was the cinematography. It was the nice mix of rack-focus and dynamic camera shots that keeps you at the edge of your seat. Pixar definitely shows that the right kind of shots can enhance the viewing experience, providing even more depth in both the story being told and the visuals on the screen.

Wall-E is a phenomenal film. Pixar manages to weave a story that is sure to be a classic and can be enjoyed time and time again by viewers of any age. From the storytelling, to the visuals, to the cinematography, Wall-E is a chill flick that will astound your kids and your inner child. We’ll definitely see this movie again before it leaves the theater and the DVD, when it comes out, will get much play in our DVD player.

p.s. The animated short at the beginning was hilarious. And it had a bunny in it, so it was even sweeter. ;p
