Chicago Comic-Con 2009 Spoils

WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO COMIC-CON 2009

More Comic-Con spoils. This time from the Wizard World Chicago. Light spending this year. Partly because Serena got sick and did not get as many commissions as she did last year. I mostly did some back issue hunting and was successful in finding some Aspen Comics Serena had missed. I didn’t go over our budget and we brought home some pretty good spoils.

OWNER'S MANUAL: FOR YOUR NEW SURROGATE UNIT - TOP SHELF

This hardcover collects, for the first time, The Surrogates and the prequel, The Surrogates: Flesh and Bone. I even got it signed by creator/writer, Robert Venditti.

When Serena got sick on Saturday, I had to take her home from the convention early. While she went to bed to sleep off the food poisoning, I grabbed the Michael Turner sketchbooks I secretly picked up at SDCC’09. Since I was returning to the convention to watch over Serena’s table the rest of the day, I decided to see if I could get some sketches done from some of the artists at the Aspen Comics booth. I found Peter Steigerwald and Micah Gunnell at the booth doing some sketches. I talked to Peter for a bit and let him know how Serena got sick and had to leave early. I then explained how I secretly bought the sketchbooks and was going to give them to Serena after Comic-con was over. I asked him if he could do a sketch in both books. He said he’d do it and try to get the some of the other artists at the booth to contribute as well. When I picked up the sketchbooks at the end of the convention, Peter and Micah had each drawn a sketch in both books.

I thanked them both for the sketches and gave Serena the sketchbooks this past Monday night. She was really surprised and can’t believe she did not catch me. What can I say? I am uniquely talented when it comes to secret gift giving. ;p

I definitely had my eyes on both Diamond Select Enterprise-D replicas. But there will be other conventions with other purchasing opportunities. I’m really happy that I was able to find those back issues for Serena as well as get those sketches done those Michael Turner Sketchbooks. I know she’ll treasure those forever.

Oh, I do have 4 other spoils I want to post but since they are definitely too awesome, they deserve their own post. Let’s just say I’m taking my comic book collecting to the next level. ;)
