It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Sep.16, 2009, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

A bigger pick up this week despite the fact that we stopped picking up [DARK] WOLVERINE and X-MEN LEGACY. But these are all titles that I’ve been having a great time reading. Not surprisingly, a majority of our stack came from DC Comics. I wanted to pick up the BATMAN: CACOPHONY collected hardcover but Serena had to pick up two issues of THE VEIL that she missed and the latest hardcover collection of RUNAWAYS VOL. 1. I might pick it up later, but I’m not really a fan of the art by Walt Flanagan, friend of Kevin Smith and manager of Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash comic book store out in Redbank, New Jersey. Oh and what’s up with these weird titles? Cacophony? And now the latest mini-series that out: Widening Gyre?

    This week we picked up:

  • ANGEL # 25
  • BATGIRL # 2
  • BATMAN AND ROBIN # 4
  • BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM # 4
  • BLACKEST NIGHT # 3
  • DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH # 3
  • EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT IRIS # 3
  • GREEN ARROW AND BLACK CANARY # 24
  • THE OUTSIDERS # 22
  • RUNAWAYS: THE GOOD DIE YOUNG HARDCOVER
  • SAVED FROM THE TRASH: AN AARON LOPRESTI SKETCHBOOK
  • THE VEIL # 2 AND 3
  • WEDNESDAY COMICS # 11
  • X-FACTOR # 48

PICK OF THE WEEK: BLACKEST NIGHT # 3

BLACKEST NIGHT # 3

Written by Geoff Johns; Art and cover by Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert; variant cover by Ethan Van Sciver; Cover by Ivan Reis
As the dead attack in full force, Green Lantern is faced with an impossible decision and the scattered remains of the Justice League suffer a terrible loss. Who can stop the Black Lanterns? Why are they rising? And how can the Spectre help?

RUNNER-UPS: EVERYTHING ELSE FROM DC COMICS!

CAUGHT SERENA’S EYE: SAVED FROM THE TRASH: AN AARON LOPRESTI SKETCHBOOK

SAVED FROM THE TRASH: AN AARON LOPRESTI SKETCHBOOK

From the X-Men to Ms. Marvel to the Avengers to Wonder Woman, Aaron Lopresti has been a fan-favorite since 1993, when he was plucked from the obscurity of “Forbush Man” back-up features to pencil Malibu’s Man-Monster, “Sludge”. Enjoy the (nearly) lost sketches and commission work from popular artist Aaron Lopresti in this amazing sketchbook!

SHE’S MOST EXCITED ABOUT: EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT IRIS # 3
