Yesterday was my last day at work for M00SEJAW M0UNTAINEERING. I now join the ranks of those unemployed Americans who are victims of this nation’s poor economy. I’ve been searching for a job ever since I got word of my downsizing back in late July (the day after I got back from vacation). Anything web design related requires more extensive knowledge than what I was taught at school that my job didn’t have the necessary tools or funds to teach me while I worked for them.

So I’m at a crossroads in my career path. Do I bother with learning new skills as a web designer or move onto something more fulfilling? Something that would not just make me more money but more importantly prepare me should being laid off be a continuing trend? I’m totally without some income. Still being a part of GameStop, my manager and good friend from college has decided to what he can to get me extra shifts as I figure out what to do. He says I could always work my way up again and become a Store Manager.

That definitely is a worse case scenario. I went to school specifically to get out of retail. But times are definitely indeed tough. And if I have to continue down that path of being a corporate peon peddling their wares to the customers who can often be jerks and idiots, so be it. At least I’ll still get a discount on my videogames, which provide me a great release of stress.

I’m going to chill this weekend and contemplate my next move. I’ve already filed for unemployment but it still takes two weeks to process even though I applied online. Next week, I’m going to swing by the local community college and see what classes they have to offer.
