Top 10 Things I Will Not Miss Working At Game$top

10. GameStop TV starring: Captain Redbeard, Assclown Tool-boy and Horseface Bitch
9. PowerUp Rewards abbreviated to PUR and pronounced as ‘purr’.
8. The ASSumptive approach to selling the above at 100% Digital instead of asking the customer what THEIR preference is.
7. Corporate over-hyping games prior to release and when the game tanks after launch the customer gets mad at us for forcing the pre-order.
6. Parents who frown when I ask them if it’s okay that their child wants and M-rated game, buy it because their brats control them, and then complain to me after they see their kids playing the game they agreed to buy them.
5. Customers who cannot read the frakking return policy (especially those idiot parents noted above) on the back of the receipt and expect you to break the rules because of their stupidity.
4. Corporate stealing from RedBox by not having a stricter trade in policy when a customer comes in with a stack of caseless games with the RedBox sticker on them and wants to trade them in for cash.
3. Corporate asking you to shove MADDEN and CoD preorders down customers throats when the damn game is 6 months from release.
2. Those MADDEN and CoD fanboys who do the pre-order, praising the game even though it hasn’t been released yet. Then they freak out when something new is introduced and but buy it anyway. A week after release they complain that the game is still the same.
1. Dealing with the manager who currently runs the store at the Woodfield Mall. He’s an ABRASIVE asshat.
It’s Been Fun, Game$top! /Sarcasm

After nearly a decade of using my passion for videogames to work for one of the most despised retailers, I am finally closing this chapter in my career and, most importantly, my life. Putting myself through night classes ever since I was laid off in 2009 and getting the first 2 (of many) IT certifications has finally landed me an entry level position in the IT industry. After interviewing almost two months ago, I start my new career next week. I am excited, nervous, but most importantly, I am happy.
Happy to be no longer shoving reservations and subscriptions down customers throats. Happy to be no longer listening to the corporate propaganda on over-hyped videogames and spewing it back at the customers, helping the company make their bottom dollar; and then after game launches, the customer suffers because the game I sold them was complete garbage. Happy to be no longer dealing with those customers who I know they are stealing from REDBOX and other retailers but corporate keeps turning the blind eye to increase their USED videogame market. Happy to be no longer dealing with fanboys who trash every great game out there because it isn’t MADDEN or COD. Happy to never answer the phone again with “Thank you for calling Game$top, [insert bull$hit greeting about reserving some videogame and taking in iDevices here].” Happy to never have to work hard for poor hourly wages.
HAPPY TO BE FREE FROM RETAIL. FOREVER.
I will always remember the few great experiences I have had while working at Game$top and will remember those great people I have shared those experiences with. Some of those great people I will continue to keep in contact with as we have become far better friends then just co-workers and I am thankful for their support and understanding.
Come Monday, the transition from retail will not be hard as this is what I want. There is no turning back from this because a lot of sacrifices have been made and I will continue to make whatever sacrifices are necessary to turn this ‘foot-in-the-door’ opportunity into a long lasting career. I look forward to continue learning and to prove to my new employer that they made the right choice, the right investment.

Well said. I’m am a bit tired of how bad videogamer prejudice is and how badly videogamers and videogames are portrayed in tv shows and movies. Lucky for me, my peers are gamers too and I have never really had to defend videogames that often unless it’s a parent who gets on my nerves preaching from their high horse but just don’t have a clue. Thanks to TheDanielSuperShow.
