Serena and I attended the Comic Book Mania! Convention at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, IL this past Saturday. The mini-con was part of the Comic Book Mania POW! BAM! READ! Exhibit through Aug. 22nd. We were invited by the library through Keith’s Komix. There was a Magic The Gathering Tournament, Heroclix Tournament as well as a costume contest in which Serena and all the guest artists were judges. We had a great time and made some new friends within the comic book industry.

We had the pleasure of meeting and sitting next to the very talented Art Baltazar, writer and artist of Tiny Titans, and artist of Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam!. He was pretty cool. We chatted in between sketches and he was nice enough to help Serena out by providing a Longshot sketch for reference after I couldn’t find a comic book at any of the dealers.

Towards the end of the convention, I requested a Kilowog (The Green Lantern Corps) sketch and Serena requested a Molly (The Runaways) sketch as she sketched Supergirl holding a coffee cup for Art.

As the convention wrapped up, I asked one of the librarians to take a picture of the three of us with our sketches.

The convention was a huge success and we’re hoping it will happen again next year so we can be a part of it again. The staff and coordinators were great hosts really enjoyed having Serena as one of the special guest artists!

With the regular TV season finished and your favorite shows either done forever or on summer break, the Summer TV Season is underway!
