It’s New Comic Book Day!
by LoneWolf on Dec.12, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics
We picked up our comics early Thursday afternoon and they have been sitting on my desk waiting to be blogged about. The holidays have been keeping me busy and a bit exhausted with my new job but at least I’ll have more money to budget with and thus allowing me to continue getting my weekly fix at Keith’s Komix. But better late than never, right? Serena and I are both excited about Aspen Comics’ Lady Mechanika. Visually stunning and richly written, Joe Benitez and Peter Steigerwald are giving us a steampunk adventure we’ve all been craving for!

From the imaginative mind of Joe Benitez with colors by the incomparable Peter Steigerwald, comes this all-new supernatural action-adventure series!
The tabloids dubbed her “Lady Mechanika”, the sole survivor of a psychotic serial killer’s three-year rampage through London. Found locked in an abandoned laboratory amidst countless corpses and body parts, with her own limbs amputated and replaced with mechanical components, her life began anew. With no memory of her captivity or her former life, Lady Mechanika eventually built a new life for herself as a private detective, using her unique abilities to solve cases the police couldn? t or wouldn? t handle. But, she has never stopped searching for answers?
Now, brought into a case unlike any before, Lady Mechanika will have to rely on her advantage in all things occult and paranormal in order to solve the case and possibly unlock the secrets to her past!

It’s New Comic Book Day!
by LoneWolf on Oct.15, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics
A nice pick up last night at Keith’s Komix. I decided to hold off on Batman titles this week so that I can focus on reading the BRIGHTEST DAY tie-ins. I’m also on the fence of about picking up ‘THE ROAD HOME’ one shots. Serena saw some interesting artwork in two titles that I never thought would end in our pull. But I’m trying to be a bit more open minded and less of a fanboy. I flipped through the two comic books and trust Serena’s eye for great art. Usually with great art, the story is just as great, sometimes reading even better because of the art!

The final issue of Aspen’s newest action adventure series, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT: IRIS, sees the walls of her existence come crashing down upon her as Iris’ bloody trail of deception and murder lead her on a path, and showdown with one man ? Mr. Ching! Atop the soaring skyline of Dubai, Iris is forced to rely on all of her life experiences up to this point, including those less favorable to her memory, to defeat the wrath of her contemptuous former employer? as well as the deadly surprise Ching has in store for his now-former Executive Assistant! From the creative minds of David Wohl and Michael Turner, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT: IRIS delivers the thrills unlike anything you’ve ever seen!
(Writer) David Wohl (Artist) Eduardo Francisco
Despite delays, Aspen Comics definitely has quality over quantity and that’s fine by me! You can see it in the story, art, inks, and colors! Executive Assistant Iris’ first volume comes to a close and it leaves me wanting more. But you can’t rush this kind of perfection and Aspen has got something great going on with this book, making it well worth the wait for Iris’ return next year!
CATCHING SERENA’S EYE: STAR WARS – KNIGHT ERRANT # 1

Writer: John jackson Miller
Artist: Federico Dallocchio
Colorist: Micheal Atiyeh
Cover Artist: Joe Quinones
Genre: Star WarsMore than one thousand years before Luke Skywalker, a dark age grips the galaxy as an ineffectual Republic abandons entire systems to Sith control. A newly knighted Jedi on her first mission, eighteen–year–old Kerra Holt has joined a band of Jedi volunteers traveling deep behind enemy lines, with no support from the Republic and little chance of survival. She thinks she is prepared for anything. She’s wrong.
* A new series in a new era, introducing a new female hero to Star Wars!
* John Jackson Miller is also writing a Knight Errant novel for Del Rey starring Kerra Holt in an original adventure! See her here first!
Meet a new kind of Jedi for a new era of Star Wars!
I never thought I’d see Serena pick up a Star Wars comic book. I’ve always wanted to pick them up but finding a jumping on point was hard. Serena saw this and flipped through the book, liking the interior artwork. But wait, there’s more!
THOR # 616

COVER BY: PASQUAL FERRY
WRITER: MATT FRACTION
PENCILS: PASQUAL FERRY
INKS: PASQUAL FERRY
COLORED BY: MATTHEW DALE HOLLINGSWORTH
LETTERED BY: NEUROTIC CARTOONIST, INCTHE STORY:
What kind of hell is coming for Asgard? What does Asgard’s presence on earth mean? Only one man knows for sure and he can’t get anyone to take him seriously. The reconstruction of his fallen city are first and foremost in the God of Thunder’s mind as an evil more terrifying than even he could imagine comes roaring down the World Tree. The Dark Gods are coming for Asgard. Here is blood! Here is thunder! HERE IS THE MIGHTY THOR!
Yet another series I wanted to pick up but never found the right jumping on point. Serena saw # 616 on top of someone else’s pull and flipped through it liking Pasqual Ferry’s artwork. I went through the issues before this one and found Ferry jumped on as artist on # 615. So I grabbed that too!
