BRINK

BRINK definitely has the foundation to be an awesome team-objective based FPS. It reminds me of TEAM FORTRESS 2 but with added gameplay mechanics. Those who keep comparing it to Call of Duty or Battlefield are obviously going to be disappointed, and I feel a bit irritated by them and their closed-mindedness, because the ‘run and gun’ mentality is something you have to forget about when playing this game. While Call of Duty and Battlefield usually rely very little on team communication, BRINK’s gameplay is almost dependent on it. Your team will only be successful if there is communication between players. Not all communication is needed using the headset. There are a lot visual cues and in game audio to let you know what your team members are doing. With the ability to switch classes on the fly in game instead of waiting to respawn to switch classes, having a well-balanced team becomes paramount in completing your objectives, just like in TEAM FORTRESS 2.

What Bethesda and Splash Damage have given us is definitely a fresh perspective to the FPS genre. It definitely feels like the thinking man’s shooter than the mindless run-and-gun shooter that is popular, yet over-rated in my honest opinion, today. I am hoping that Bethesda and Splash Damage do not take the rough criticisms all to heart. BRINK has established itself as a unique FPS and with more support from the developers, whether from patches or DLC, BRINK can further stand out on its own months from now, or even years from now, much like how TEAM FORTRESS 2 does today.
