It’s New Comic Book Day!
by LoneWolf on Sep.07, 2008, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

Only a few days late, but I’ve been a bit distracted with work. This week’s pull features more of my favorite titles and two Marvel titles I got suckered into wasting money on. I’m considering cutting a few titles from my pull that have been rather uninteresting as of late. Sadly, most of these titles are under the Marvel banner. I also need to stop picking up these damn One-Shots that have no place in the current continuity. These are just ploys by Marvel to get you to spend more money. I’m ashamed to have fallen for such tactics. I should know better.
Comics this week:
- ANGEL # 12
- BUFFY SEASON 8 # 18
- DETECTIVE COMICS # 848
- ETERNALS # 4
- GREEN LANTERN # 34
- NIGHTWING # 148
- TITANS # 4
- TRINITY # 14
- X-MEN ORIGINS: BEAST (One-Shot)
- X-MEN: MANIFEST DESTINY # 1
PICK OF THE WEEK: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 8 # 18
A powerful enemy from Buffy’s past confronts the Slayer and Fray in the future, having allied with Fray’s greatest foe. Meanwhile, Dawn’s gone through another bizarre change.
Joss Whedon and Karl Moline, co-creators of the hit comics series Fray: Future Slayer, reunite in Buffy Season Eight with the highly anticipated story arc “Time of Your Life.” Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty provide covers.
Fray returns in Buffy Season Eight!
I can’t say it enough, Buffy Season 8 RAWKS! Just as each TV series episode and story arc was well written, so has each comic book story arc. It reads just like an TV episode on paper! I love the cover art by Jo Chen (pictured above), and the interior artwork fits well with the writing. Even if you haven’t followed the TV series at all, the comic books are definitely worth picking up!
I would like to write more about the comics I regularly pick up but I don’t want to turn this awesome hobby into a chore. I like to take the time to read my comics and let everything about that issue sink in before forming an opinion. Then maybe that opinion will be blog-worthy. So come back in a week or so and hopefully you’ll find a post reviewing one comic that stood out from the rest.

Big pick up today! Fathom # 1 has arrived and Keith set aside the Retailer Incentive Cover for Serena. Oh and she ended up ordering the Tribute Cover offered at SDCC08 from the Aspen Online Store. Shipping was outrageous putting this issue variant a bit more expensive than the Retailer Incentive Cover. I need to go back and hunt for the rest of Fathom Vol. 2. I started collecting them a while back but dropped it because of the issues weren’t coming out on a timely manner. I should wait for the trades but I’m sure I got most of them and need like the last 4 or 5 issues.
- FATHOM # 0
- FATHOM # 1, Retailer Incentive Cover [D]

- BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, SEASON 8 # 17
- SPIKE: AFTER THE FALL # 2
- CABLE # 5
- RULK ([RED] HULK) # 5
- ETERNALS # 3
- WOLVERINE: KILLING MADE SIMPLE # 1 [ONE-SHOT]
- NYX: NO WAY HOME # 1 [OF 6]
- DETECTIVE COMICS # 847 (R.I.P.)

PICK OF THE WEEK: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, SEASON 8 # 17
After a shaky introduction, Buffy and Fray must join forces in order to discover the purpose of their meeting, and its impact on the world at large.
Joss Whedon and Karl Moline, co-creators of the hit comics series Fray: Future Slayer, reunite in Buffy Season Eight with the highly anticipated story arc “Time of Your Life.” Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty provide covers.
If this season was actually on the air, ratings would be skyrocketing and never peaking! This season of Buffy has been the best EVAR!
SERIOUSLY? I know the excitement for the upcoming Wolverine flick just got taken up a notch with the trailer premiering at SDCC08, but do we really need ANOTHER one-shot comic of our favorite Canuck? No.
But I still picked it up anyway. I need help. ;p
