Gaming Skills Suck? Just Skip It!
by LoneWolf on Jul.11, 2009, under Justified Rants

It’s been all over the Internets for a while that Nintendo wants to grab more of the casual gaming market by helping those who lack the skills in beating their games. By implementing a cheat mode that is already unlocked from the start, casual gamers, who get frustrated because they are such noobs at videgames, can now have the option to skip the part they are stuck on and move onto the next level or checkpoint of the game. Supposedly, this approach is better than having an immortality cheat, aka ‘God Mode’ as players can continue the game on the next stage, and hopefully beat it, giving them some satisfaction and then returning to the stage they skipped with new found self-esteem.
But why go back at all when you can just skip it? I don’t see how there can be any value in any game that gives you an extreme helping hand so you don’t get pissed and stop playing or trade in the game without beating it. I don’t see how this will help Nintendo or other developers make money on New game sales. If anything, this will help used game sales skyrocket for companies like GameStop. A new release will hit the used shelves in less than a week when the gamer decides to just skip to the end just to get closure on the story. Memberships to GameFly would surely increase as well.
The reason I’ve only just now decided to post on this topic is because it’s already being implemented. Nintendo’s ‘You suck at gaming. Skip it.’ mode is said to appear in the New *cough*RIPOFF*cough* Super Mario Bros. Wii game that is due out at the end of this year. If this new element in game design takes off, there won’t be much of a difference between casual and hardcore gaming. Having harder difficulty settings in the game won’t matter. Developing your hand and eye coordination to pull off that one combo in your favorite fighting game is pointless. Developing critical thinking and logical assessment skills when playing an RPG or MMO won’t matter when, with the press of the button, your character can be leveled up for you. No more online communities discussing strategies for playing the game, character builds, and building clans for raids etc.
“Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!”
Everyone will cheat to win and boasting about beating a game with your friends won’t seem as cool. Because what’s the point of sharing your gaming experience if all you did was cheat?

p.s. Yes, that was a Ghostbusters reference. ;p
