It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Apr.15, 2011, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

Didn’t pick up much today because I might have another car repair bill this weekend. So, I am saving all the Bat-family titles for next week’s pick up along with some graphic novels I’ve been meaning to pick up. Still, there’s definitely some great reading to be had this weekend!

  • BOOSTER GOLD #43
  • FABLES VOL. 15 ROSE RED
  • THE FLASH #10
  • GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #8
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #23
  • TITANS #34

It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Apr.09, 2011, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

With the week before last being a huge pick up and last week being a light one, we decided to skip our usual trip to Keith’s Komix last week. This week’s pull was pretty light too. Despite having two weeks worth of comic books waiting for us, it really wasn’t all that much. On a sad note, DEADPOOL TEAM-UP has ended with issue 883. This sucks. I really enjoyed the series because all the stories contained within one issue were well written and a good break from the normal ’3-4-5+’ issue style story arcs that are more common these days. I’ll miss those single issue stories of off-the-wall team-ups that only DeadPool could pull off as well as the fantastic art! I’m hoping the series will make a comeback someday. Maybe when the DeadPool movie comes out, Marvel will bring it back instead of doing crap movie tie-ins. It would only make sense. But then again, this is Marvel Comics we’re talking about.

This week we have:

  • BATMAN BEYOND #4
  • BRIGHTEST DAY # 23
  • CHARISMAGIC #1
  • DEADPOOL TEAM-UP #883
  • DETECTIVE COMICS #875
  • GREEN ARROW #10
  • JSA ALL-STARS #17
  • JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #49
  • OZMA OF OZ #5
  • TEEN TITANS #93
  • X-23 #8

MY PICK OF THE WEEK: BRIGHTEST DAY #23
BRIGHTEST DAY #23

Written by GEOFF JOHNS and PETER J. TOMASI; Art by IVAN REIS, PAT GLEASON, ARDIAN SYAF, SCOTT CLARK and JOE PRADO; Cover by GARY FRANK; 1:10 Variant Covers by IVAN REIS

It’s the beginning of the end as we head toward the epic conclusion to BRIGHTEST DAY! The mystery of the heroes’ return and the secrets of the white forest are revealed! Plus, Captain Boomerang draws closer to completing his mission! And at last, it’s Firestorm vs. Deadman!

SERENA’S PICK OF THE WEEK: CHARISMAGIC #1
CHARISMAGIC #1

Everything you thought you knew about magic will… Vanish.

Journey into a world where the lines between magic and reality are blurred… And where one man will soon find himself as the last remaining hope for all mankind.

In Las Vegas, luck is everything. For Sin City’s leading ‘entertainer,’ Hank the Magnificent, his luck as Vegas’ most illustrious and famous magician is about to run out! When the powers of an ancient magic once imprisoned in another realm spring forth into our reality searching for revenge at all costs, Hank soon finds himself at the center of an undying war between the forces of truth and a devastating plague of growing evil-and his hopes for survival are slim at best! Creatures of magic and myth, wizards and sorcerers, druids, witches, and beasts of legend fill the pages of Aspen’s all-new action-adventure series!

Created and written by Aspen’s own Vince Hernandez, with art by Khary Randolph and Emilio Lopez, this premiere #1 issue will open your eyes to the exciting new world of CHARISMAGIC!

After a two week break from Monsterpocalypse, I was itching to get in a game with Sid. I pretty much left strategy at home as my Terrasaurs got smacked down by Sid’s Elemental army. The game was still fun though and can’t wait to play next week!

It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Mar.24, 2011, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

This week is a bit of a huge week coming after Serena’s awesome debut at C2E2! We are both glad we didn’t spend too much money at the show. We stopped in at Keith’s Komix yesterday afternoon to pick up our books and two well deserved collectibles as sort of a ‘Job Well Done’ gift to ourselves. Serena picked up the FIREFLY LITTLE DAMN HEROES HOBAN WASHBURNE maquette by Quantum Mechanix Inc., and I picked up the HALO REACH NOBLE SIX action figure by PLAY ARTS KAI. I also picked up the sketch cover variant of FF (Future Foundation) #1 to add to our small but growing pile of sketch cover comic books. My plan is to hold on to them and let Serena do a detailed sketch on each of the covers once she’s even more famous!

  • BATMAN INCORPORATED #4
  • BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM #21
  • BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #2
  • DEADPOOL #34

  • GREEN LANTERN #64
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS #58
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #55
