I Can Has Laptop Signs

by on Sep.07, 2008, under As Random As Random Gets

First the Dell Deal got my hopes up and went sour real quick after figuring out the math with my cousin, Jason. Yesterday morning, I got the Dell September in the mailer loaded with coupons and found a really good deal on the Studio 15. That afternoon, I helped my friend, Eric, load up his new HP laptop with Office and Adobe programs. This morning Serena mentioned something about a laptop but I was too groggy and can’t remember. Today, I helped my cousin, Fred, decide on what laptop he should get now that he’s gone back to college. For someone who doesn’t own a laptop, I’m sure encountering a lot of laptop situations with my friends and family.

Maybe I can has laptop of my very own someday. ;P

Two Laptops For the Price of One!

Dell Mini 9

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 launches today – 8 a.m. Central – in the U.S., Japan and some European countries (check local listings). Starting price for the XP version – available now — is $399 USD. An Ubuntu Linux version will be available later, starting at $349 USD.

If you can wait until 6 a.m. Central tomorrow, Sept. 5, you’ll be able to get a Mini for only $99 with the purchase of a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 laptop through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 (U.S. only). ~ YourBlog

That is one hell of a damn offer! I’ve been putting off getting a laptop for so long now. But a second laptop for $99 with the purchase of any Dell Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 laptop is too sweet of a deal to really pass up. Think about it: The Studio 15 base price is $650. If I got that with the Mini 9 deal, I’d be spending roughly $750 not including tax or shipping. That’s two laptops for the price of the Studio 17!

My Geek half tells me to pull the trigger on this deal when it hits tomorrow. My cousin, Jason, is saying I should upgrade the Studio 15 CPU to a Core 2 Duo, and the gfx to ATI for a few dollars more. But my Responsible half tells me I should talk to my Better half (Serena) about this. We are trying to budget ourselves for our trip to San Diego next year. But I still would like a laptop to bring with me. I’m sure some sacrifices will have to be made: less videogame purchases, even lesser comics to pick up, more Ramen noodles, less real food. *sigh*

UPDATE 090508, 1335 hrs, CST: Apparently my math was way off on the Dell’s deal savings. You are expected pay nearly full price for the laptop of your choice in order to get the Mini 9 for $99. Bullocks!

UPDATE 090508, 1338 HRS, CST: Engadget just posted about this and did more of the math to better explain how this deal just stopped being sweet.
