It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Oct.02, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

It was a pretty light pick up week for comic books because of this past Wednesday being the rare 5th Wednesday in a Month. Still, there’s some pretty good reading in this short stack of comic books. Busy with work this past Wednesday, Serena and I picked up our pull during Thursday night’s Game Night at Keith’s Komix. On the Monsterpocalypse front, I finally won a game with the Subterran Army I’ve got. I’m still learning more about the strategy as Keith and Ryan (my opponent) were all too cool on giving me advice and tips whenever it was my turn.

CATCHING SERENA’S EYE: TOP COW’S – ARTIFACTS

ARTIFACTS # 1 (of 13)

Created by: Ron Marz & Marc Silvestri
Key Artists: Michael Broussard, Stjepan Sejic
Genre: Action/Supernatural

Hope is lost.

The offspring of the Darkness and the Witchblade has been abducted, straining the already tenuous balance between Dark and Light.

But the conflicts within the central Trinity of the Darkness, the Witchblade, and the Angelus do not alone doom our world. There are Thirteen Artifacts. Separately, they maintain the equilibrium and guide the fate of the universe. Together, they will end the universe.

Our world is dying. But there are those who have grown impatient. Cults, governments and madmen all vie for control of a power they do not fully understand.

The race is on between billionaire industrialist Glorianna Silver and Irish gun-runner Michael Finnegan to collect the remaining lost Artifacts that comprise the Thirteen. Both exist to destroy each other. Both will stop at nothing.

Lost in the eye of the storm are two people. A mother. A father. And their frantic search to find their missing child.

All bets are off.

Serena picked up issues 1 and 2 after Keith suggested them when she needed references for ghouls and goblin-like creatures. She liked the interior art a lot so she decided to pick it up and read up on the story. If she ends up liking it, she might pick up the back issues or trades that led up to the ARTIFACTS story since it’s just a 13 issue maxi-series. From the first page of issue 1, I can already tell that the story is gonna be good:

It’s New Comic Book Day! – All Caught Up!

by on Aug.27, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

Yesterday night’s visit to Keith’s Komix was fun as usual. Not only did we have a nice stack of comic books waiting for us, we had a good time sharing our exploits at our last trip to the Chicago Comic-Con, with our friends at the store. After putting stuff on hold due to conventions, we picked up everything in our box and are now caught up! I also got to play some Monsterpocalypse too! My Subterrans lost to my buddy, Syd’s Elementals. It was definitely a good game as my gameplay seems to be getting faster. I spend less time looking up symbols and rules and more time planning my strategies. A few more games, and I should be able to kick-ass with my army one of these days.
