Nintendo Shows Off How Wii and DS Will Own This Holiday Season

by on Jul.16, 2007, under A Geek and His Games

This year’s E3 Media and Business summit was different with no booth babes, no acts/skits/bands on the showroom floor and a lot less people. I’ve watched a lot of the videos of the games presented and the conferences (guess which conference I didn’t sit thru at all) held this year via IGN. The games seemed rather lack luster this time, probably because the games were already ‘known’ to be out there: GTA4, Assassin’s Creed, Too Human, Resident Evil 5 and all the other games shown or announced over the course of the year; and nothing much that was shown wasn’t ‘new’ to the keen eye of one who surfs the net (a lot) for ALLTHINGSVIDEOGAMES. I watched Microsoft’s conference and wasn’t particularly blown away from the announced lineup for the holidays, and it seemed the crowd wasn’t getting the awe/shock they were looking for. There were no “ZOMGSECRETEXCLUSIVE30GAME” announcements that would make the headlines of every Gaming blog.

Nintendo’s conference was a bit different (no surprise). They presented only a few key titles which everyone was expecting and also actual release dates! So for those of you waiting on Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime Corruption, these hot titles will definitely be coming out this holiday season. On the DS side, Brain Age 2 is a definite buy and also Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass. However three accessories also debuted and both extend the Wii’s range in gameplay variety. The two most talked about are: The Wii Zapper and the Wii Balance Board. I’m not gonna go into details so just watch the following videos:

As you can see, Nintendo still knows how to put on a good conference showing. Even though there’s less spectacle in E3, Nintendo still knows how to stand out and be the one console brand to keep an eye on.
