The Call of Duty Franchise Is Dead
by LoneWolf on May.31, 2011, under Justified Rants

I know that the title may be an exaggeration. I’m sure there are a lot of hardcore fans will be willing to throw their money away into Bobby Kotick’s wallet. But the Call of Duty franchise I grew up with, starting on PC, that grew my love for the military FPS genre, IS DEAD to me. Like Guitar Hero and DJ Hero, both franchises were milked to death, and now Activision is taking the milking of the Call of Duty franchise even further by launching a subscription service with the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 videogame.
Activision Blizzard Inc. plans to launch an online service called Call of Duty Elite this fall that will work with the next major edition of the game, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,” and future installments of the hyper-realistic combat-simulation game. In a move industry executives describe as a first, Activision plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the service, which will provide extra content that isn’t offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new “Call of Duty” levels to play.

It’s bad that we, gamers, already pay over-inflated prices for broadband, with meager download speeds, that isn’t always up when it should be.
Lucky for me, Xbox LIVE is costing me $25 a year now that I’m the family plan.
Paying for monthly service just for extra content for an overrated game? No thanks Activision!

I got laid off, over the phone, again. I’m not at all shocked, just a bit disappointed that my boss didn’t have the guts to tell me in person or give me a legitimate reason he was letting me go. He claims he was worried I would get injured on the job and he couldn’t have that on his conscience or be financially responsible should I get hurt. In the time that I have worked for him, he has re-aggravated his back on more than one occasion. He claims I was costing him too much to be employed. Well, then why not bring in more customers instead of impulse shopping online for things you don’t really need? i.e. A Giant Pencil, Giant Pen, Giant Calculator, a PS3, outdated PCs and PC parts without the proper research.
In all honesty, I knew this job wouldn’t last. I wasn’t learning anything that I didn’t already know by my own experience or by something called common sense. I did more cleaning than anything and my boss lacked organizational skills that any real successful business has. He would tell me to organize one way then change his mind after I’ve busted my ass organizing things in a way that made the most sense.
But what’s done is done. I don’t regret the time I’ve put in. It was an eye opening experience and I did learn a few things about running a business and managing employees: Just do exactly the opposite of what my boss did and I’ll end up doing it better than him.
