It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Nov.11, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

Finally, after being delayed, Bruce Wayne returns! The question left for me is whether or not I will want to pick up the new Batman titles slated to come out in the next month or two. With Brightest Day and its tie-ins still going, it’s gonna be tough to budget for more Batman books. I guess I can give it the 3-issue trial and then decide whether or not the books in question are worth my time and money. Serena saw that Humberto Ramos is the artist for the latest Amazing Spider-Man arc so she picked up the issue in support one of her favorite artists. If she says the story is good, I’ll probably read it.

Grant Morrison and BATGIRL artist Lee Garbett deliver the final chapter of this time-spanning epic! With Bruce Wayne just steps away from returning to present day Gotham City, the timestream might have a few more surprises in store for The Dark Knight! Do not miss this issue, as it paves the way for the shocking future era of Batman!

After reading this, I can now go back and read BATMAN AND ROBIN # 16 as the conclusion of that book’s current story takes place after Bruce’s return!

SERENA’S PICK OF THE WEEK: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN # 648

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN # 648

PAUL TOBIN & CLAYTON HENRY bring a tale of action & intrigue, and make a strong argument for why you can sometimes send a Spider-GIRL to do a Spider-MAN’s job

One of Serenity’s greatest mysteries is finally revealed in Shepherd’s Tale, filling in the life of one of the show’s most beloved characters–Shepherd Book!

Who was Book before meeting Mal and the rest of the Serenity crew, how did he become one of their most trusted allies, and how did he find God in a bowl of soup? Answers to these and more questions about Book’s past are uncovered in this original graphic novel by rising stars Zack Whedon (Dr. Horrible, Terminator, Fringe) and Chris Samnee (Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps, Daredevil). A pivotal chapter in the ongoing Serenity saga, Shepherd’s Tale is also a rollicking, action-packed epic in its own right!

It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Oct.23, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

It’s been a busy week with catching up with our tv shows that I missed posting about our adventures at Keith’s Komix. We have a little bit more to pick up this week since I held off on picking up the Batman-family titles from last week. Not one of my regular pulls, I picked up Superman/Batman # 77 because it was a one-shot story with SuperGirl and Robin (Damian Wayne) and also because it featured the art of Ale Garza who we met on our trip to San Diego this year. Finally, Mark Millar keeps sucking more money out of me as Kick-Ass 2 and Superior were added to the pull. On a side note, I finally won a game of Monsterpocalypse against my buddy, Sydney. My Cthul Army beat out his G.U.A.R.D. Army ending my month and half long losing streak! Huzzah!

It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Jun.23, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

The weather has been pretty wet with thunderstorms today but there was a brief moment of sunshine and that’s when we made our run to Keith’s Komix. Our pick-up is pretty DC heavy, which is never a bad thing. I’ve decided to continue picking up Power Girl because I’ve never read a bad Judd Winick story and Serena likes Sami Basri’s art style. BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE continues this week and I’m all the more curious about Bruce’s current predicament and how the world’s greatest detective will resolve it. In the light of BRIGHTEST DAY, GREEN ARROW # 1 kicks off. What is the deal with the Star Forest exactly and why is Ollie all up in that?! This weekend’s readings will surely be enjoyable as always. DC NATION FTW!

  • BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM # 13
  • BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE # 3
  • DETECTIVE COMICS # 866
  • GREEN ARROW # 1
  • GREEN LANTERN CORPS # 49
  • JOE THE BARBARIAN # 6
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST # 4

Featuring the dynamic artwork of YANICK PAQUETTE.

SERENA’S PICK OF THE WEEK: POWER GIRL # 13

POWER GIRL # 13

Written by JUDD WINICK • Art and cover by SAMI BASRI

Power Girl dives headfirst into the next chapter of her life on Earth with new series writer Judd Winick (JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST) and artist Sami Basri (THE SHIELD)! And what events will draw her to her former JLI teammates from JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST?

HARDCOVER PICK OF THE WEEK: JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE

Written by JAMES ROBINSON; Art and cover by MAURO CASCIOLI

A new team of heroes – Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Supergirl, Atom, Shazam, Congorilla and Starman – unite to take a proactive approach to fighting crime! Following the deaths of JLA heroes Batman and Martian Manhunter, this new team stands determined to stop evil from ever striking so drastically again. But when Prometheus plans his revenge on the heroes, will this new team be ready to pay the cost for the justice they seek?

This has been out for some time now but I just got mine in the mail the other day from Amazon. It was a fantastic read. Thank you James Robinson for what looks to be as one of the most important stories of the Justice League ever to have been told! Definitely a must have hardcover graphic novel!
