1/850 Scale USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A Model by Bandai

The 1/850 Scale USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A model by Bandai that I recently one off of Ebay came in today. Now that was some fast shipping. I won the auction on the 19th and the seller shipped it on the 20th, from Hong Kong. These Bandai models are great cause of the snap-build and high details that make painting not necessary. Other than the original Enterprise and the Enterprise-A, Bandai also made kits for the Enterprise-E, the NX-01 (Archer’s Enterprise), and Voyager. They were all made in limited quantities, some internet modeling sites show them either out of stock or, rarely, in stock and overpriced. Thanks to Ebay, I got this model far cheaper than those few sites I found it at.

Four hours later after work, it’s already built and just waiting for the finishing touches: a few minor applications of crazy glue and the decals. The wiring for the lights wasn’t difficult like I thought it would be. Running off of 3 AAA batteries you can see that it lights up pretty nice. Serena took the pic as I held it in front of my monitor (turned off) and I just photoshopped in the starfield. It almost looks like a still frame from the TV show.

The decals are gonna be a pain since they are the ‘soak in water’ kind of decals. I’ve got a lot of choices though, the decal sheet contains all 14 Constitution Class starship names and model numbers. But since I won’t be buying 13 other kits like this anytime soon, I’ll stick with the Enterprise decals. I’ll post again once Serena and I have the decals done.
