It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Feb.20, 2011, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

This past Thursday night at Keith’s Komix was filled with fun as usual. Picked up a lot of great comic books to read over the weekend. Ended the night with some Monsterpocalypse as my Cthul Army barely beat out Sid’s Air Elementals. I won with a lucky 9-hit overkill Smash attack.

GRAPHIC NOVEL PICK OF THE WEEK: BONE Vol. 2 THE GREAT COW RACE
BONE Vol. 2 THE GREAT COW RACE

By: Jeff Smith, Steve Hamaker and Scholastic Books

In “The Great Cow Race”, volume two of the nine-book Bone series, Fone Bone and his cousins plan to return home after visiting the village of Barrelhaven with Thorn and Gran’ma Ben. But Phoney risks everything on one last get-rich-quick scheme for the town’s annual Great Cow Race. As usual, Phoney’s plans go disastrously awry, and Boneville seems farther away than ever.

Meanwhile, omninous signs indicate war is brewing, and Fone finds himself helping his friends defend their valley from a formidable enemy.

These great new editions feature the ever lovin’ Bone and his adventures in leapin’ lizards, flyin’ off the page COLOR!!!

Serena has been liking Bone ever since Keith introduced the series to her with Vol. 1 – Out From Boneville. The characters, story and art all have a unique imaginative style that reminded Keith of Serena and her artwork. It moments like that that make Keith’s Komix our favorite place to be on Thursday nights!

HAPPY READING!

It’s New Comic Book Day!

by on Sep.03, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics

We picked up our comic books yesterday at Keith’s Komix since we were both work Wednesday night. A pretty light week which is good since the last few weeks have been rather expensive because we were catching up with our books due to the our comic-con trips over the last two months. This week Serena’s excited about the two new Aspen titles hitting the shelves, The Scourge and Fathom: Blue Descent. I’m still keeping up with Brightest Day and despite the story slowly unraveling, it has managed to keep my interest with the little tid-bits being revealed. There was no Monsterpocalypse going on last night. Keith gave a free movie pass to see STAR TREK at the AMC Streets of Woodfield in IMAX. While it wasn’t a true IMAX, the screen size was a bit bigger and the video and audio quality were definitely of IMAX quality. The only thing I didn’t like were that the seats weren’t remodeled to a stadium style seating. The mini-IMAX seating is just as the same as the regular theater seating.

We did have enough time after the movie to stop back at Keith’s Komix to see the gang and chat for a bit. Syd and I talked about the stupidity of DC retconning Wonder Woman’s origin when they dare not touch Batman’s or Superman’s origin stories. I also picked up more units and monsters for my Subterran army that Keith unboxed while looking for some Elemental Monsters and Units for Syd.
