It’s New Comic Book Day!
by LoneWolf on Oct.02, 2010, under A Comic Book Guy and His Comics
It was a pretty light pick up week for comic books because of this past Wednesday being the rare 5th Wednesday in a Month. Still, there’s some pretty good reading in this short stack of comic books. Busy with work this past Wednesday, Serena and I picked up our pull during Thursday night’s Game Night at Keith’s Komix. On the Monsterpocalypse front, I finally won a game with the Subterran Army I’ve got. I’m still learning more about the strategy as Keith and Ryan (my opponent) were all too cool on giving me advice and tips whenever it was my turn.

MY PICK OF THE WEEK: GREEN ARROW # 4

Written by J.T. KRUL • Art by DIOGENES NEVES & VICENTE CIFUENTES • Cover by MAURO CASCIOLI• 1:10 Variant cover by PHILIP TAN
From the pages of BRIGHTEST DAY comes Martian Manhunter! His White Lantern vision has led him to the Emerald Archer’s mystical forest. Is he there to save it – or destroy it? Can Oliver stop his former ally?
CATCHING SERENA’S EYE: TOP COW’S – ARTIFACTS

Created by: Ron Marz & Marc Silvestri
Key Artists: Michael Broussard, Stjepan Sejic
Genre: Action/SupernaturalHope is lost.
The offspring of the Darkness and the Witchblade has been abducted, straining the already tenuous balance between Dark and Light.
But the conflicts within the central Trinity of the Darkness, the Witchblade, and the Angelus do not alone doom our world. There are Thirteen Artifacts. Separately, they maintain the equilibrium and guide the fate of the universe. Together, they will end the universe.
Our world is dying. But there are those who have grown impatient. Cults, governments and madmen all vie for control of a power they do not fully understand.
The race is on between billionaire industrialist Glorianna Silver and Irish gun-runner Michael Finnegan to collect the remaining lost Artifacts that comprise the Thirteen. Both exist to destroy each other. Both will stop at nothing.
Lost in the eye of the storm are two people. A mother. A father. And their frantic search to find their missing child.
All bets are off.
Serena picked up issues 1 and 2 after Keith suggested them when she needed references for ghouls and goblin-like creatures. She liked the interior art a lot so she decided to pick it up and read up on the story. If she ends up liking it, she might pick up the back issues or trades that led up to the ARTIFACTS story since it’s just a 13 issue maxi-series. From the first page of issue 1, I can already tell that the story is gonna be good:

HAPPY READING!

Yesterday’s visit to the comic book store was a bit short due to work but we managed to stay long enough to exchange small talk about Thanksgiving plans and the insanity of Black Friday. HALO: HELLJUMPER finishes this week and BERSERKER # 3 finally came out! Plus there’s more BLACKEST NIGHT is in store for me this week. So there’s gonna be some pretty great reading to be done over the holiday weekend!

PICK OF THE WEEK: BERSERKER # 3

Writer – Rick Loverd, Artist – Jeremy Haun, Cover A – Dale Keown, Cover B – Jeremy Haun
The bone-crushing new series produced by HEROES star Milo Ventimiglia and DiVide Pictures continues this month! Farris realizes he has traded one war for another and refuses to fight the other Berserkers. Meanwhile Aaron must flee from the cops and other Berserkers. Featuring variant covers by series artist Jeremy Haun (Battle for the Cowl: Arkham) and Dale Keown (The Darkness/Pitt).
Hopefully I won’t be too much in a foodcoma this weekend so that I can get some great reading done. Happy “Let’s Get Fat And Happy” Day!
Reminder, next week’s comics will be picked up on Thursday due to the holiday weekend.
